I shot this video with my mother on the 9th anniversary of my father’s passing. I wanted to make a video which spoke to the role of the mother in the family, as well as the history of fathers’ passing down traits and responsibilities to younger men. As my mother is dressing me in all my father’s old work shirts, she is creating a protective layer, while also placing more and more layers of heteronormative ideology and generational masculinity on me, eventually making it harder for me to fully function and eventually move, all-the-while she gets smaller behind my growing body until eventually disappearing.
